This whole food life has really blossomed in the last 12 years. It started with the Weekly Dish radio show and progressed to a podcast called the “Makers of Minnesota,” where I could talk to food people and hear their Maker’s stories. I started a website called StephaniesDish.com to capture those podcasts and possibly write some recipes as I had been toying with the idea of a book proposal. From there came “The Jason Show” (you can watch past episodes on my YouTube Channel) and weekly appearances cooking on TV, what I call “home cooking.” Then the “True North Cabin Cookbook” brought my family recipes to life with our cabin stories narrative.
Each time one of these fantastic things happened, I would think of my mom. Her name was Anne Subby. She was a marriage and family therapist and died of breast cancer on July 31, 2007. I used to call my mom every day, and we talked while driving home from work. I have missed those calls and shared my wins, losses, hopes, and dreams with her. I looked up her obituary today, and there is a line in it that says,
