May the 4th be with you! Happy Cinco De Mayo. Unfortunately… “Journalism” lost again, but this time at the Kentucky Derby.
We headed to Ely, Minnesota, where we have our “True North Cabin” to open for the season. We have two cabins here. Our family has an island, quite literally labeled as “True North" Island” on a map that was purchased by my husbands family in the 1970’s.


The cabin is very rustic with two bedrooms, an outhouse, and a deck that wraps all the way around the house.
We park a boat at Burntside Lodge, a historic logging lodge built in the 1920s, and when the ice goes out, we boat to the island, tie up at the dock, and open the cabin for the season. As I write this, about 40% of the lake is still covered by ice, and it will likely disappear in the next two days with highs in the high 60s
